In 2014, Jim Carrey made a commencement speech at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, IA, USA. This is a compilation of all his words in an interactive and experimental publication.
Jim Carrey talks about life choices, mainly of finishing school. He refers to life as an ocean of opportunities where love has to win against fear. In the ceremony, he reveals one of his most prominent paintings and tells the story about it and how he likes to paint with a black light. Throughout the book, all the images are treated to convey the black light and neon colors. Yellow and blue are the colors of the school. The pages have a wave design that abstractly transmits the ocean that he refers to in the speech. The layout and format of the text are based on the mood and the expressions he is talking about. There are some interactive pages, like a “door” that opens to write all your ideas for your next big step. There is a compass that rotates, a mirror page, a page with specialty paper that reveals his painting, and others.
This book is a gift for future graduates to meditate on their next step and the choices they need to make.
